Menu bar
Let us take a look at the Menu bar (pic 2.1). It has different menu items like File, Edit, View and so on. Click on the File menu and a drop down menu will appear. You will find in it that the options are New, open, brows, save and so on. New is used to open a new file, open is used to open an existing file. Save is used to save a file, Click on browse and you can see that the whole directory or folder will show up. You can see all of the items of a particular folder. Edit menu has different items like copy, paste and so on. You can copy and paste different items. So look in all the menu items and play around and find out how the different items work. As we go along we will learn more about it.

(pic 2.1)

Now Look at the different icons of theMenu bar (pic 2.1). You can use those icons also to open a new file or save it or open any existing files. It has an undo icon to undo or cancel the previous move. It also has copy and paste icons as well as icons that you can open different palettes from directly. When you keep your curser on these icons it describes the feature.

How to open New File?

Now go to menu bar and click on the icon New or click on File and then on New (pic 2.2). A New image box will appear (pic 2.3).

File -New - New image box.

Now in the New image box the settings should be like this. (Just an example)
width - 400 Pixels (You can change the width according to your need)
Height - 400 Pixels (You can keep the desired height)
Resolution - 72.000
Background color - You can choose any color, it has white, black, transparent and so on. You can also choose foreground and background color of your color palette. I kept white. See (pic 2.4).
Image type - 16.7 million colors (24 bit).
Now click on ok.

You will get the new image file (pic 2.4). I kept the background color as white that's why my image is white. It does not show the actual size. But your image will be quite big. Try it and see how it works.

This image is our work area where we can fill different colors and can make different images. As we go along we will learn more about it.
