Basic Tutorial
Lesson 3

Tool Palette:

# You can see on the left side of the psp window a verticle tool
bar. It is called Tool Palette.
# It is now inactive. Open a new image File - New with any setting to activate it.
# It has variety of tools, which is used for different applications.
# When you keep your curser on any of these tools it displays the
exact feature. As you can see in pic Selection tool (rectangular
box) is selceted.
Selection Tool:
# It has many features like rectangular, Ellips,
rounded rectangle, square, star and so on. You can look all these
features in Tool Options to
select it.
Now Look at the options Tools: (Pic
3.2)
It has different Selection types like I said
earlier: Rectangle, Ellips and so on.
It has Feather and antialias feature also. As we go
on we will learn all these things and how to use it.
In pic top right you could see a black arrow (icon).
Click on it a dropdown menu will appear in it you will find again
the same Tool palette (Pic 3.1)
Note: All the tools of tool palette
(Pic 3.1) works with Tool options (Pic
3.2).

Zoom
|
Now let us look how different icons of Tool
Palette works
Zoom Tool: In simple
way we can say that this tool is used for zooming picture to increase
or decrease maginification.
To activate this tool Save (Pic Star
- above picture) in your hard disc.
By the way if you do not know how to save picture,
click here to learn more about it.
Now open it in psp7. If you do not know how
to open it click here to
learn more about it.
Now click on Zoom button now click on pic star
with left mouse button and pic will look biger. Now click with right
mouse button and pic will look smaller. Click several times and
find out what happens. That's how Zoom tool works. You can Zoom
any picture to make minute corrections in it.

Selection
|
Selection Tool: Tool
options (Pic 3.2) displays
different selection tools like rectangular, Ellips and so on.
Now open the new file.
To activate this tool click on selection button then release the
mouse button.
Now place your curser on blank white work space or image.
Now place curser in one corner hold the left mouse button and drag
it.
See (pic3.3 ) It
is done by rectangular selection button, marching ants shows the
selected area.
You can create Ellips, circle and many other shapes by selecting
different options in Tool options (Pic
3.2). Try different shapes. Process is
the same as above.

Mover
|
Mover Tool: It
is used to move picture form one place
to another.
To use it click on mover tool then place it
on selected image click with left mouse button hold it and drag.

Freehand

(Candle)

Freehand Tool:
It is used to select the outline of image or
make a border. .
Go to Tool Options You'll find three different types of selection
for freehand. These are: Freehand. point to point and smart edge.
Select any desired picture or save this picture
(candle) in your hard disc. Open pic candle
from your hard disc. (See
how to save and open picture)
To activate this tool,click on freehand tool
then Select freehand option from Tool options then place your curser
on image (candle).
Now hold the left mouse button and draw a border over picture as
you see in (Pic 3.4). Do
not release the mouse button inbetween when you reached the starting
point release the mouse button. You'll see the border of the selection
as marching ants (Pic 3.4) .
Play aroud it, with other options i.e. point to point and smart
edge and see how it works. When you work with point to point and
smart edge you need not to hold your mouse button all the time.
draw a border over desired picture when you reached the starting
point click with left mouse button to get the border with marching
ants.

Magic Wand
|

Magic Wand: This tool is useful for selecting
content.
You can select contents by changing RGB value, tolerance and feather
in Tool options.
My settings are like this in Tool options
mach mode- RGB value
Tolerance - 10
Feather -0
copy this picture ( Eagle) and
paste it in your psp7 or save it in your hard disc.
Procedure is the same as previous. Click on magic wand button, now
place it on picture (black area) and click with left mouse button
you'll see marching ants that means picture is now selected. (Pic3.5)
Now go to Menu bar (top of the page pic
1.1) click on selections now click on inver [ Selections >
Invert ]. The picture will look like this.(pic
3.6). See now only Eagle is selected. Now you can copy and
paste it on any other backgrond or on any other picture. Just for
an example I've pasted it on white background (pic
3.7). We will see it later in detail.

Play around it change settings and see what it does.

Dropper
|
Dropper Tool:
It is useful in selection of solid colors for
Foreground and background.
To activate it select the dropper tool (left
pic) then place it on color palette (pic
3.7). Click with left mouse button to
choose foreground color. You can see green
color (foreground color) is selected on top of color palette.
For background color click with right mouse
button to choose background color. You
can see dark grey color on top right.
You can choose color from any picture or image
too to match it for various purposes.

Clone
|
Clone Tool:
This tool could be used to copy the picture to another location
or within the same image. You can also remove the flaw of any image
by clone tool.
Now to activate this tool click on clone button
(left pic) then place it on desired image or picture then right
click to activate it (pic 3.8).

Now go to menu bar (top of the page (pic
3.9) click on the white box or click on [File > New].
A dialoauge box will open up setting should be
like this (pic 3.10) click ok
now.
A black image will appear. Now hold your left mouse button on this
black image and move your curser.
Now as you can see in the pic of two eagles (first
one is original pic and second one is created by clone tool). The
x mark will appear on original picture. It shows that you are copying
the perticular portion. Move your mouse all over the original pic
till you have made the whole picture or desired area.
